Health & Well-being
School Nurse
Each site has a registered nurse 5 days per week, 9am-3.30pm. Nurses are responsible for the health and well-being of pupils during the school day.
The school nurses undertake a range of activities aimed at improving and maintaining the health of pupils, to support them to attend school. This helps to maximise opportunities for our pupils, enabling each child and young person to reach their full potential.
School Nurses undertake assessments and develop care plans for all our pupils with health needs including enteral feeding, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, asthma and many more. All our care plans are dependent on individual needs.
The nurses train our teaching staff to support pupils who require clinical intervention during the school day. This is to ensure all needs are met and staff are confident and competent to support our more complex pupils.
Our Nurses also provide advice and support as well as refer and signpost to external agencies/professionals to ensure a holistic approach to meeting pupils’ needs is undertaken. They facilitate professionals such as paediatricians and dietetic clinics in school,. This supports pupils who have difficulties attending medical appointments at hospitals. They work closely with a wide range of health and social care professionals to get the best outcomes for our pupils.
Play & Creative Therapy
At Evergreen School we make the health and well-being of our students a top priority.
Play/Creative Therapy provides our children and young people with the opportunity to play out their feelings and problems in a safe space with a qualified, trusted adult. Play and creativity are essential for healthy development and well-being. Offering this therapy on site in school allows us to maximise the potential of every student.
At Evergreen School we have a qualified play & creative therapist and a trainee therapeutic play practitioner who are able to deliver 1:1 sessions for pupils who may require additional support for a variety of reasons ā to aid development, build confidence or for emotional support.
Therapeutic Music
Similar to play but using music, pupils do not need to be budding musicians to access this therapy.Ā Music therapy is the use of music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of an individual. It employs a variety of activities, such as listening to melodies, playing an instrument, drumming, writing songs, and guided imagery. Music therapy can help students express their emotions and creativity, develop communication and interaction skills and learn reciprocal skills, providing a safe space to express themselves.
At Evergreen School we work with Warwickshire Music and currently have one qualified music therapist, as well as one student therapist, working together across both sites.
Lifespace
Lifespace provideĀ one to one mentoringĀ for children and young people to reduce distress, build resilience and enable them to achieve more. We create a safe time and confidential space for children and young people to explore the challenges they face, and what they want in life.
Drawing & Talking
Drawing and Talking is a non-intrusive therapeutic intervention which enables students to process deep stored emotions and/or trauma in a safe way. Using the medium of drawing, each person is able to express their thoughts and feelings in a non-confrontational manner and then respond to questions about their picture which are always asked in the third person. D&T is suitable for anyone over the age of 5 who has the ability to communicate using verbal or written language. It is an attachment-based process, supporting the student to develop a therapeutic relationship with the practitioner and leading to a carefully scaffolded ending.
Story Massage
Story Massage offers a fully inclusive way for all ages and abilities to enjoy the creativity of storytelling, combined with positive touch. Stories can be tailored to the individual, ensuring the experience is both engaging and relevant to them. Story massage can be delivered as a 1:1 intervention, or as a group. Pupils will benefit from improved calmness and concentration, increased engagement in activities and the importance of respect and relationship building.
Lego Therapy
Lego Therapy is a pupil-led, therapeutic intervention that can aid the development of communication, social skills and imagination. Facilitated by a trained staff member, it can improve sharing, turn-taking, following rules and problem solving. Lego Therapy can be accessed by pupils who can communicate either verbally or by means of an iPad and have the motor skills to use Duplo or Lego. They will need to take on the role of ābuilderā, āsupplierā or āengineerā and work as a team, communicating instructions to each other.
